Britain’s Got Mad Talent!

I’m not a major fan of this show, I have more of a love affair with X-Factor and American Idol as they do identify some real talent whereas I’m not really into watchin people pull a car with a rope tied to their ears (in Britain’s Got Talent episode 1).

However, the talent shown by the infamous dance group FLAWLESS on the first episode made me shun my ignorance and pay attention to what Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan were judging.

I heard about this next young man Shaheen Jafargholi but I can honestly say I was quite lost for superlatives, from the minute he started I was like ‘yeah, he’s got talent.’ It’s a good look that average people from all walks of life have such an opportunity in this day and age.

Ju’Not (U Know) I’m backing him.. American Idol!!

I’ve been watching this season of American Idol, I haven’t really payed much attention in the past but I find it interesting to see that Mr Cowell still holds the same prescence across the border as he does here, the show indirectly reveolves around him. Anyhow, some of the artists I liked from previous rounds, namely Stephen (the black guy with the dodgy hair) have failed to live up to expectation or their song choice has been ridiculous.

Ju’Not (pronounced Yu’Know) performed yesterday and was the first artist i’ve seen this season that took something out of the box and done something good with it, performing Hey There Delila.

So, i’m backing him to win, however my TIP to win is Lil Rounds, a very strong female vocalist, imagine a hint of Fantasia, a sprinkle of Jennifer Hudson with a Mary J. Blige topping,  although she does have her own style mixed in with that.. See her performance for yourself. I didn’t think it was that great like the judges did but she ended VERY strongly, and demonstrated that there is much more in the locker.

Sway and Akon… Silver and Gold!!
I don't think he was talking about these Silver and Gold's!

I don't think he was talking about these Silver and Gold's!

On first hearing probably the most famous Ghanaian in the UK’s recent album, The Signature LP,  this song was definitely the one that stood out (minus Pray For Kaya).

North London’s Sway DaSafo’s flow had hardly ever been in question but it seems of recent times that he has improved his song making and vocal ability dramatically. Whether this is due to him having creative freedom over his product or whether it may have been the personal difficulties experiences he has dealt with of late, whatever it was has had a positive effect.

This song, Silver and Gold demonstrates Sway’s unique flow, with meaningful catchy lyrics, and even some multi-tone vocals and ad-libs (if you’re unsure, think of  Jay-Z when he whispers etc). Combined with the instantly recognisable voice of Akon on the chorus, this equals one of the best club tunes that the UK has EVER produced.

This song SHOULD do so well, both here and on the other side of the Atlantic, given the right promotion and marketing along with support from UK TV and radio stations I would be slightly dumbfounded if this didn’t make at least the Top 10 though when I first heard it I did think it was a straight No.1 but maybe my judge of music of late hasn’t been  that great considering I tipped Diana Vickers for X-Factor and Alexandra Burke won!

I can see big things for UK music in 2009 although I seem to remember being told this every year for the last few but in terms of UK Hip-Hop and Grime artists I do believe that the standard is constantly getting better, with this year seeing some very good material produced.

I don’t think i’ve EVER heard Sway go so hard as when he first comes in on this song..

‘Just hopped off a Plane // Sway // Name  just popped up again // UK just got a hotter game // Konvict Music top of the game// I’m in the club and i’m watching the dame// Who’s in love coz she’s watchin// Watchin da chain// And whether it’s a drop or a range// One thing for sure it’s the top of the range//’

All I can say after that is Giggs’s trademark… Jheeeeeez!

X Factor’s winner does not want the EX Factor
He can't play his way back into her heart now!

He can't play his way back into her heart now!

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has blasted back at her ex boyfriends claim that he had a sex tape which he was planning to sell to a tabloid. 20 year old Burke has hit back by saying she will never trust men again after the threat from D’andre West.

“I will never date a man again, I really can’t trust men now, every relationship I’ve had has never gone well and they always backstab me in the end,” she announced.

This was in response to this claim from the heart broken ex boyfriend,  “I want to make some money…I’m not interested in anything less than £100,000,” he claimed.

West told the News of the World that he has material of the singer having sex and performing a sex act, I wonder what that might be!! (If I use my BRAIN or my HEAD then it might figure it out!!)

However, Alexandra who had been in a two-year relationship with West has denied the claims, and says she feels betrayed.

“He’s a bit of a fool for doing this and he text me to tell me he’s been getting death threats and he’s planning on going to the Mirror to sell another story to clear his name,” Alexandra revealed.

Burke is clearly putting this situation behind her and concentrating on her future, which many tip for huge success, Louis Walsh even compared her to Beyonce after their amazing duet on Saturday’s final, surely the best EVER performance on the much viewed and debated X Factor.

“I’m so excited about the future and I actually can’t wait to see what’s in store for me. I really want to bring old skool music back with a little bit of a pop twist,” she said.

In further news she also announced she wants to duet with my personal favourite and fellow mentoree, Diana Vickers and also mentor Cheryl Cole, i’ll back that!!

That’s enough X Factor news now! I don’t know why I watch such silly TV anyway!

Ale-X Factor? A star is born, on the cheap!
Cowell's face when asked if Alex is REALLY getting a million!

Cowell's face when asked if Alex is REALLY getting a million!

All the hype was about this supposed £1 million contract that the winner signs.

Well, the Daily Mirror has quashed those reports and delivered the full dossier and lowdown of the winner’s and respective second to fourth place contestants earnings and clauses.

It seems  that the winner actually gets only a £150k advance, 2nd gets £75k, 3rd £50k and 4th £10k.

Oh, and sorry I didn’t mention that expenses come out of this money aswell so all the limousines and nice fashionwear the artists have been induldged in will undoubtedly be billed to the artists themselves!

The 80-page document has been sent out to all of Saturday’s finalist (Alexandra Burke, JLS and Eoghan Quigg) and also includes Diana Vickers who was voted off in the semi-final.

One of the particulars in the clause states that an artist “may be considered unduly negative, critical or derogatory of the Company – including its personnel and, in particular, Simon Cowell”.

So in a nutshell you can’t take the piss out of Cowell after you leave the show, and thats written in black and white! Money IS power, Cowell’s the man!

Have a look at some of the other clauses;

Clause 38.4
Artists booted off the show have to fork out five per cent of all future live earnings to Cowell for a year.

Clause 36.4
You can only sing in pubs for three months after last show – unless gig is being recorded.

Clause 1.41
Contract enforceable anywhere in the world and solar system.

An X Factor spokesman said: “It’s not a £1million prize – it’s a record deal. The £1million figure includes the recording costs, using the best producers, and marketing costs using the best video directors. We would say £1million is a very conservative figure.”

No wonder why Cheryl Cole tried to ban her winning artist from having a boyfriend throughout the show – she would have to split that tiny advance, in this day and age that sort of money is nothing to one person let alone having a partner..

Once again, Simon’s done the trick! If there’s a sequal to the film Paid In Full he should be considered for a leading role.

Genius..

The first one is two Braziilian Musician’s called Ana Carolina and Seu Jorge, while the second is the writer of the song, Damien Rice.

This is the same song that Diana Vickers sung in her X-Factor audition.

If this don’t move you musically, I don’t know what will!! I like this!! ALOT.

‘The Blowers Daughter’

I’ve got the X!!!!

I have to be honest and confess. I am an avid follower of X factor, i.e from the first episode I watched and auditions were taking place I have watched it EVERY Saturday since and if i’ve missed it, i’ve rushed home from footy on a Sunday Afternoon just to see the re-run. Put it this way, I avoid the papers and the net before I have watched it in order to not spoil the surprise, Sad? I know!

But it gets worse in terms of the confessions!!

Basically I know I am about to put my neck on the line but for a variety of reasons, I want Diana Vickers (did I stutter??) to win X Factor, see I can hear the ‘Have you lost it?’ ‘Is he OK?’ ‘Who’s this guy fooling?’ questions from all of you as Alexandra Burke is clearly the best singer in the competition with the most star quality, but I must say firstly that I do admire an underdog, which Diana would be in a sing-off between the two.

Diana struck me from her initial audition when she sang ‘The Blowers Daughter’ by a contemporary artist called Damien Rice whom I learnt about in my first Uni, when I studied Music Management and Marketing and liked his music; it was just that, pure music. I am a fan of ANY genre of music, it’s more about how the music makes me personally feel that attracts me whether it be deep emotion, emotive words, rhythm’s, tempo’s etc, the list goes on.

I feel that Diana, albeit not the best singer is a raw uncut talent and undeniably is the most unique natural artist in the competition. Her tone of voice, some may say annoying, some may say just straight crap but I feel music relates to people in different ways and I can honestly say that in the right mood, I enjoy listening to music of the kind of nature of Diana.

I could see her along the Amy Winehouse, Duffy’s and to some extent Kate Nash while Diana would still be slighly left-field compared to those I listed.

Alexandra, however does not fit into a niche, she would fit nicely in the R&B market but would she thrive? Does any UK R&B artist really thrive?

Alexandra, has it all; the star quality, the looks, the diva-bility, the voice, the dancing, the charisma, the character, however she could have made it regardlessly without the X Factor, I feel she feels the need to prove to them they made a mistake a few years ago when she did not make it past the boot camp stage. But she didn’t need X Factor this time, and thats why it seems so evident that she must be the clear winner this time around however I know it’s not the popular choice, it’s controversial to say the least but i’m backing the underdog in this battle, Diana’s talent has grown on me.

Disagree? I bet you do, let me know…
